Position: Registered Nurse, (RN) ICU, Part Time, Day Shift

Overview

Island Health is looking for an experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse for a part‑time night shift at our hospital in Anacortes, WA. This is a 0.6 FTE position.

night shift.

Compensation

Salary range: $37.64–$71.35 per hour.

  • Night differential – $4.75
  • Evening differential – $3.25
  • Weekend differential – $4.00
  • BSN (or higher) premium – $1.00 per hour
  • Certification premium – $1.00 per hour

ICU Unit Registered Nurse Responsibilities
  • Utilize the 5‑step nursing process to provide patient care.
  • Coordinate and implement diagnostic and therapeutic orders.
  • Know the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, procedures, and care standards.
  • Administer drugs, intravenous procedures, and other therapeutic measures safely and accurately per Washington state regulations.
  • Identify emergent situations and respond calmly and professionally.
  • Operate necessary equipment and demonstrate technical skill.
  • Serve as a resource to patients, specialties, and other staff.
  • Prioritize treatment based on diagnoses.
  • Apply knowledge of life‑span development to meet individual needs.
  • Support clinical pathways.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per approved standards.
Professional

Skills and Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Current licensure in Washington State.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting (preferred).
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Document relevant information accurately and legibly in a concise manner.
  • Respect patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Respond constructively and sensitively to patients, families, visitors, peers, and hospital personnel.
  • Keep supervisor informed of patient status and progress.
  • Assess patient knowledge and participate in goal development.
  • Develop and evaluate teaching plans.
  • Document nursing process components per established standards.
Professionalism & Leadership
  • Accept and implement hospital and nursing department policies and programs.
  • Assess staffing needs and request additional help when necessary.
  • Participate in performance evaluation by preparing a self‑evaluation.
  • Strive for excellence and safety, challenge or correct errors of peers as needed, and participate in peer review.
  • Attend workshops and in‑services for skill development.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in formulation and implementation of unit standards.
  • Provide leadership in patient safety by implementing safety goals and reporting errors and near‑misses.
Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
  • Current licensure in Washington State.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in an acute hospital setting (preferred).
Work Environment

The work of this position is performed indoors, exposing the employee to typical health‑care environmental conditions such as dust, pollen, pollutants, fumes, communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and medicinal preparations. Noise levels are usually moderate.

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods, push, pull, reach, occasionally bend, sit, stoop, and stretch. The employee must have full range of body motion, handle and lift patients, and have the hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and medical equipment.
