Job Description
Under the direction of Maintenance and Operations Supervisors, conduct basic maintenance tasks indoors and outdoors both at the wastewater treatment plant and the City's collection system ition not to exceed 1040 total hours. Scheduled hours of attendance are negotiable.

Job Responsibilities

Participate in team driven maintenance projects to install, maintain, improve, or replace equipment and systems.

Conduct cleaning and groundskeeping at the WWTP and a variety of lift stations around the City.

Refer to instructions, equipment manuals and other documentation as needed to identify spare parts and perform maintenance tasks.

Document work activities in the City's computerized asset management system.

Follow all safety plans and procedures when performing work; use appropriate safety devices, equipment, and personal protective equipment; maintain awareness of potential hazards.

Safely operate a full-size service truck on streets within the City limits.

Safely operate a variety of electrical and gas-powered tools.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Must demonstrate basic mechanical knowledge. Must be a minimum 18 years of age. Must possess the ability to conduct physical labor and have the desire to exercise it. Prefer a minimum of 1-year experience that includes maintenance and troubleshooting skills. Preference given to candidates interested in wastewater, water, and other public works careers.

Licenses and other requirements: Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

• Materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater treatment plant systems, and equipment.
• Basic maintenance, repair and troubleshooting principles and practices including preventative maintenance procedures.
• Operational and safety regulations pertaining to wastewater treatment plant operations and work within the public right of way
• Office equipment including computers and applicable software applications.

Ability to:

• Perform manual labor.

• Pay close attention to detail.
• Read equipment instructions and maintenance manuals and identify part from a parts list.
• Perform preventive maintenance on treatment plant facilities and equipment.
• Work well with others in a team environment.

• Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Miscellaneous Information
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Performs duties assigned by WWTP Supervisors. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, using some independent judgment within supervisory expectations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Wastewater treatment plant. Exposure to noise of plant machinery and other equipment; mechanical and electrical hazards of operating equipment; fumes and odors of sewage, chemicals, and gases; potential contact with raw sewage: toxic substances such as chemicals, cleaners, solvents, and gases; all types of weather and temperature conditions. Work and/or walk for long periods of time on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.

Work locations may include confined spaces and at heights >6 feet. Work environment is informal, team-oriented, having both routine and variable tasks with variable pace and pressure. Work is performed in both indoors in plant area and outdoors in field and collateral facilities.
