Qualifications and Detail about the Position

Skilled welder must have experience as a craft Journeyman in t h e Construction / Maintenance Industry; mu s t have be able to Lay‐ out, assemble, in s tall and maintain pipe syste m s, p ipe support a nd relat e d h y draulic and p n eumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heati n g, cooling, l ubricating a nd industrial production and processing systems.

Fabricate s m a ll, medium, and large bore pipe of vari o u s metals and alloys (e.g. b utt weld pipe, threaded pipe, and socket weld).

Reads and comprehends construction dr a wings and s p ecifications.

Lays out and installs piping, equipment, and other mechanical s ystems in compliance with construction dr a wings and specifica tions.

Works in co n junction with o ther crews and lead pers o ns.

Maintains responsibili t y for all tools and equipment assigned to t h e group.

Read blueprints and drawings and take or read me asu rements to plan layout a n d procedures.

Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered sa w s to match me a surements).

Operate grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

Align components using c alipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.

Weld components using m anual or semi-automatic welding equ ip ment in various positions ( vertical, horizontal, or overhead).

Inspect weld e d surfaces a n d structure to discover fla w s

Maintain equ i pment in a condition that does not compromise safety

Quali f icati o ns:

Minimum 3 y ears welding experience in power plants and refiner i es preferred.

Must have a working k n o wledge of various welding codes, specification, techniques, and methods.

Must be fam i liar with properties of me ta l machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techni q u es.

Always at t entive to detail and alert to ensure safety.

Ability to receive and follow instructions and comm u nicate with c o-workers.

ORIENTATION
- Must be able to successfully pass Brock and/or Safety Council Site Specific Orientation requirements.

HEAVY WORK
- Lifting up to 50 pounds of force from the floor to the waist and 35 pounds of force from the waist to above shoulder.

CLIMBING
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, to elevations in excess of 100 feet, to maintain three-point contact at all times.

LADDERS
- Using vertical ladders Frequently up to 100 feet
- Activity exists up to 60% of the work shift.

STAIRS & RAMPS
- Using stairs or ramps:
Occasionally up to 100 feet
- Activity exists up to 40% of the work shift.

BALANCING
- Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, on unprotected elevated surfaces using fall protection equipment; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing scaffold construction at elevations using fall protection equipment. Frequently
