Position Summary
The primary functions of a Controller are to provide oversight and continuous improvement of the accounting activities for the division. This requires traveling to different locations to conduct reviews of accounting activities and operational processes that affect accounting.
Duties & Responsibilities- Oversee, review, and improve the overall accounting functions of the division.
- Support or train new employees within the division.
- Partner with yard management by providing analysis and insight for business decisions.
- Review, implement, and improve internal controls and company policy; assist in monitoring adherence.
- Perform verifications and reconciliations of account balances.
- Conduct analytical review of financial statements to ensure integrity.
- Perform monthly and quarterly financial and operational reviews of subsidiaries in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines.
- Assist with mergers and acquisitions, including closing journal entries, blending of balance sheets, and onsite pre‑merger inventory.
- Prepare and review year‑end work papers and client assistance packages for external auditors.
- Prepare or provide support for tax returns in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Train new accountants at the subsidiary level in all aspects of financial and accounting reporting in accordance with GAAP and company guidelines.
- Provide training to subsidiary personnel regarding back‑office functions and accounting software such as Concur, Cadency, and One Stream.
- Act as liaison between the division and the department director regarding all GMS initiatives.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
- Coordinate and support sales and use‑tax audits, property tax audits.
- Assist in the preparation of year‑end audit work papers for external auditors.
- Communicate regularly with subsidiary accounting staff and all levels of management to develop strong relationships in the field.
- Develop and create reports based on the needs of each region, regional VP, manager, etc.
- Perform inventory observations and assist with routine inventory counts.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 5‑7 years of related work experience; travel to multiple locations; CPA preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting, financial statements, SOX controls, and overall accounting procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; lead, execute, and delegate as needed.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to self‑manage, show initiative, and drive results.
- Must remain in a stationary position in an office environment 80% of the time; frequently move inside the office to access files and office machinery.
- Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
- Must be able to move any files weighing up to 10 pounds for audits.

- Base salary range: $ to $ annually.
