Under the direction of the Accounting Manager and Controller, records business accounts and transactions, performs a variety of complex technical accounting and fiscally related functions and reviews, monitors, and audits fund record management activities; compiles financial and other fiscal information and completes various State and District reports; performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the advanced journey level class of the Accounting series. The Senior Accounting Technician is distinguished from the Accounting Technician classification in that the former is assigned complex technical accounting duties for a functional area of responsibility such as ASB, bank deposits, reimbursements, categorical claims, journal entries, revolving checks etc. and provide technical and functional responsibility for other accounting technical personnel.
The Senior Accounting Technician is further distinguished from the ASB Account Technician in that the latter performs a variety of basic accounting functions in the management of ASB accounts. Incumbents at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures and able to perform the full scope of duties of the Accounting Technician and have a more in-depth knowledge specific to assigned area.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school; college-level course work in accounting or a related field. - EXPERIENCE:
Four years of accounting clerical experience.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Accounting and auditing practices, procedures and terminology, as well as general materials (e.g. handbooks, manuals) in assigned area;
Preparation of financial statements and comprehensive accounting reports;
Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques;
Regulations and codes relating to categorical programs;
Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws;
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment;
Operation of a computer and assigned software;
Oral and written communication skills;
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary;
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Principles of lead supervision, direction and training.
ABILITY TO:
Perform advanced-journey level accounting duties in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of assigned accounting records;
Prepare and maintain accurate financial and statistical records;
Perform mathematic calculations quickly and accurately;
Interpret, apply and explain applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations;
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
Operate a computer and other office equipment;
Proficiently use Microsoft Excel and other related software;
Prioritize and schedule work;

Balance accounts and reconcile bank statements;
