• Pay: $28-33/hour, commensurate with experience
• Full Time. All hours may require occasional evening and weekend work.

Civil Rights Managing Attorney. Position Status:

About the Role

The Civil Rights Administrative Coordinator acts as the first point of contact for the Civil Rights Department and will support our day-to-day operations through a variety of tasks to manage incoming communications, client intakes and correspondence, and to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the department. The ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, highly organized, proactive, and capable of multitasking in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to all incoming communications including answering phone calls, maintaining the department’s voicemail box and email inbox, and properly following up with intakes received online.
  • Direct incoming communications to appropriate staff as needed.
  • Conduct initial legal intakes and follow up with clients and potential clients via phone, email, and text.
  • Draft and send client correspondence, including retainers, referrals, and closing letters.
  • Mail outgoing correspondence and oversee incoming mail distribution, review, scanning, processing, and filing.
  • Organize and maintain all department documents, including scanning, uploading, and filing physical and electronic copies.
  • Assist with calendaring and scheduling internal and external meetings.
  • Support grant deliverables, including timely collecting and reporting data and statistics.
  • Support litigation efforts as needed.
  • Support intern and clerkship recruitment efforts and supervision as needed.
  • Support Operations with onboarding of new department hires, clerks, and interns and organize onboarding schedules and training.
  • Maintain and update department contact and referral lists and resources.
  • Assist with organizing special civil rights events, forums, and outreach efforts.
  • Provide additional support to civil rights staff with other office tasks as needed.
  • All CAIR staff are required to help with fundraising efforts as required.
  • CAIR staff may be required to attend some weekend or weekday evening events.
Qualifications
  • At least 1+ years of experience in operations or administrative coordination.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Superb organizational and time‑management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail‑oriented, ability to multi‑task, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and work well under pressure in a fast‑paced team environment.
  • Ability to interface with community members, clients, and potential clients with a high degree of professionalism and care.
  • Personal accountability and ability to take initiative and direction.
  • Access to a working vehicle and the ability to drive throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area.
  • A strong commitment to civil rights and CAIR’s mission.
Preferred
  • Conversational proficiency in Arabic, Farsi, Dari, or Urdu.
  • Nonprofit work experience.
  • Experience working with the American Muslim community and/or working with people from diverse cultural and socio‑economic backgrounds and/or non‑profit organizations.
