The TK Classroom Teacher Aide is responsible for providing assistance to instructional programs by supporting the teacher in achieving educational objectives. The aide works with individual students or small groups to help them reach the skill levels of the class. The teacher aide also helps maintain a well‑organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment that enables students to fully benefit from the instructional program and available resources.
Job Duties- Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following teacher direction and demonstration.
- Assists in preparation of materials for class, classroom activities, assignments, and location of supplementary materials from the school library and other resource areas.
- Implements behavior management programs designed by teachers and/or school psychologists.
- Counts and records specific student behaviors; administers procedures in the positive behavior support plan.
- Monitors student use of instructional equipment.
- Provides general maintenance of equipment, including cleaning and disinfecting.
- Assists in maintaining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.
- Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Meets regularly with teachers and/or certificated support staff to plan program activities and review materials and assignments.
- Communicates with collaborating agencies, district personnel, parents, students, and the public to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns; speaks and translates into the primary language.
- Assists with parent contacts by telephone or in person, serving as an interpreter as required.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as expected of classroom teachers.
- Other job‑related duties and schedules assigned by supervisor.
- Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment as appropriate to the grade levels assisted.
- Ability to carry out activities of the program in accordance with applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to use technology appropriately.
- Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens, and sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials and operate standard office equipment.
- Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent, and pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). - Experience with younger students age 5 and below and/or ECE units or a CTC Child Development permit.
- Preferred:
Two years of college (48 units), or an A.A. degree or higher.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, and sit for long periods of time. The employee must also be able to listen and hear students, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and be appropriately mobile, including escorting students across campus as needed.
