Overview

The City of Anaheim Public Utilities Department seeks a highly knowledgeable and dynamic Utilities Generation Technician
. The Utilities Generation Technician operates and maintains the City's power generating facility within the Public Utilities Department and performs a variety of technical tasks in operations, maintenance and repair of operation:
Controls, Equipment and Machinery. Candidates must possess journey-level experience in control room operation of power plants. Ideal candidates will possess journey-level experience in performing maintenance and repairs of equipment and machinery consisting of one or more disciplines:
Qualified Electrician, Instrument Technician, Controls Technician, Mechanic.

This position is Monday to Friday, 9-hour shifts. Day (6 AM to 3 PM) and evening (3 PM to 11 PM) shifts. Must be available for occasional weekend, holiday, and 24-hour emergency or dispatch stand-by duty rotation assignments and when assigned be able to respond to the power plant with 50 minutes after the call-in.

Responsibilities
  • Operates and maintains a gas turbine-generator power plant including balance of plant equipment, auxiliary equipment and related support equipment; executes LOTO’s; delivers and places orders for consumables, parts, receives and executes instructions from Power Resources Division for operation of the gas-turbine generators.

  • Performs test water on conditioning equipment; RO, Demineralizer, cooling tower, raw water, makes inspections and adjusts equipment at the gas turbine-generating power plant including auxiliary equipment in both the standby and operating modes.

  • Reviews, maintains, evaluates, and files operating logs and records to determine plant availability and compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency, South Coast Air Quality Management District and other governing agencies.

  • Develops and implements contingency plans related to power plant operations and maintenance; assists in the training of personnel and performs general housekeeping duties as assigned.

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Experience
:
Journey-level control room operating experience in power plant generation, utilizing a gas turbine generator as a prime mover with heat recovery steam generator; continuous control system, or equivalent experience is necessary. Experience with steam injection of the gas turbine is also required.

Knowledge of
:
Basic Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Electricity and Electronics as it applies to gas turbines, electric generation; hazards involved and safety precautions required when working in and around electric generation equipment including energized circuits, chillers/cooling tower, confined spaces.

Ability
:
Read, understand and follow written or oral instructions and establish procedures; read precision recording instruments and keep records; read Mechanical (P&’s) and Electrical (one-line) drawings; think clearly and logically and act decisively and properly in emergency situations; operate a vehicle safely; operate radio and telephone equipment; learn mechanical skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work;

and remain calm in emergencies.

License/Certification

Required:

Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Possession of any required governmental licenses, registrations or certificates for the operation of a gas turbine plant/steam plant.
