The City of Anaheim is seeking talented Administrative Interns II for the Public Works Engineering Department. This year-round internship is an excellent opportunity to gain meaningful Public Works engineering work experience. Candidates must be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate level courses in an accredited college or university with major course work in the area of civil engineering, traffic engineering, transportation engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or related degree.

Candidates must attach a copy of their current transcript (official or unofficial) to their application. Students enrolled in classes at a University of California school may attach a copy of their study list or other school-generated document showing currently enrolled classes. Failure to attach the required document(s) may result in your application not being reviewed.

This is a part-time position usually averaging 20 hours per week. A minimum number of hours is not guaranteed. Evening and weekend hours may be required.

Engineering Internship assignments are available in the Construction Services, Engineering Design Services, Development Services/Subdivision, Traffic Engineering/Transportation Planning Services, and Traffic Management Center. The City reserves the right to place candidates in a particular division that best fit the needs of the department.

Public Works Divisions

Construction Services manages contracts for the City's capital construction projects to ensure compliance with the contract, plans, and specifications. Construction Services also performs surveys and inspections for all City capital improvement projects. Our work spans various City Divisions, including Community Services, Community Development, Fire & Rescue, Public Utilities. We oversee all capital improvement construction contracts and projects, including the design and construction of public buildings and facilities citywide.

The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.

Design Services is responsible for the overall planning and development of the City's arterial highways and the master planning and design of all arterial street, storm drain, and sewer improvements plans. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering.

Development Services/Subdivision performs professional and technical level engineering work including plan review, development review for private developments and developments by other public agencies or public utilities. This division facilitates the review of building plans, grading plans, soils report, hydrology reports, Water Quality Management Plans (WQMP), and street improvement plans. The subdivision team also reviews matters related to real property, such as legal documents, agreements, and covenants.

Development Services is involved with a wide variety of projects such as the Honda Center, Disneyland, and Angels Stadium. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning performs professional and technical level engineering work including plan review, development review, contract administration, and field surveys. Tasks include preparation of signing and striping plans, assisting with traffic calming and permit parking requests, warrant analyses for signals and stop signs, and traffic impact analysis.  The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Traffic Engineering.

Traffic Management Center operates and maintains traffic signals, signal timing and phasing, changeable message signs, closed-circuit television cameras, traffic fiber optic network and other intelligent traffic system devices for commuter traffic, construction activities and special events. The ideal college majors include Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
