Position SummaryThe role of the Member Account Protection Investigations Supervisor (MAPIS) is to assist in the administration of the Credit Union's fraud prevention programs. The fraud prevention program is designed to protect the Credit Union and its members from losses from financial crime. The Member Account Protection (MAP) function is closely aligned with the credit union's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)/Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Program.
The MAPIS will also assist in the identification of suspicious activity and prepare written analyses and Suspicious Activity Reports in support of the credit union's BSA/AML program under the direction of the credit union's Member Account Protection Manager.
Responsibilities will also include transaction analysis, fraud case/alert processing, member due diligence reviews and special projects focused on specific risks. The MAPIS also coordinates the Regulatory Red Flag and Elder Abuse programs.
The MAPIS will supervise MAP investigations staff and work closely and collaboratively with frontline staff. The MAPIS will also assume the role and responsibilities of the MAP Manager, relative to MAP investigations functions, in their absence.
Essential Position FunctionsThe MAPIS administers the credit union's Fraud, Check Fraud and Kiting Detection System and is responsible for configuring and operating the system for optimal results, and maintaining the system in compliance with the credit union's policies and procedures. The MAPIS works closely and collaboratively with the BSA and MAP Investigator(s).
Under the direction of the MAP Manager this position involves delivery of highly professional communication and outreach to foster awareness regarding financial crime. This includes: development and delivery of training presentations; consulting and advisory guidance in fraud prevention techniques and best practices to internal staff.
Responsibilities also include preparing material for reporting by management to the credit union's Board of Directors and/or Audit Committee.
The MAPIS must have expert knowledge of banking products and workflows, especially payment systems (check, wire, ACH, and online banking) and aggressively pursue the recovery of funds when a fraud occurs. This requires close communication and coordination with a variety of parties including counterparts at other businesses; law enforcement and legal counsel. The MAPIS also cultivates and extends a network of contacts, such as members of professional organizations.
The MAPIS must continuously evaluate fraud risks and proactively identify methods to enhance risk mitigation. This may require participating in the risk assessment of new products, services, systems, or other material changes. The MAPIS also follows emerging threats and keeps current with risk factors to ensure appropriate controls (including implementation of new technology) are in place to manage the level of risk.
The MAPIS will also direct the Credit Union's card fraud detection and prevention rule implementation program to ensure a high degree of security with minimal negative impact to members. The MAPIS will assist with high risk fraud claim reviews and manage all escalated complaints.
Other duties, and special projects, may be assigned at the discretion of the MAP Manager.
Education, Experience,Skills And Abilities
Minimum Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in a financial institution investigation field. Three to five years of supervision experience in a financial intuition.
