The Anaheim Police Department is now accepting applications for a Police Services Representative I/II to perform non-sworn police services and duties related to law enforcement in various divisions of the Police Department.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsPolice Services Representative I is the entry-level class in the Police Services Representative job series. This class performs the more routine tasks and duties. Incumbents may have little or no previous work experience. As breadth of knowledge and skill level increases, incumbents may reasonably expect promotion to the journey-level class of Police Services Representative II.
Police Services Representative II is the full journey level class in the job series. Incumbents have substantial and directly-related or prior occupational experience and perform the full range of duties assigned to the position. They work under moderate supervision with only guidance, instruction or assistance, frequently in the absence of a supervisor. Work is normally reviewed only upon completion and for overall results.
This class is flexibly staffed and is normally filled by advancement from the Police Service Representative I level or when filled from the outside, requires prior work experience.
The department has sole discretion to hire at the Police Dispatcher I or Police Communications Operator level based on experience and available vacancies.
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address department needs and changing department practices.
Police Services Representative IAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities are as follows:
Experience: Previous entry level experience working with the public on an individual and/or group basis. Experience working in a law enforcement support position is desirable.
Knowledge of: Some police procedures and policies;
City of Anaheim municipal codes, vehicle codes and parking laws, criminal codes, collision investigation techniques, and basic interviewing and report writing techniques.
Ability to: Learn assigned job duties and apply knowledge to emergency and non-emergency situations; work diplomatically with a diverse group of people; remain calm in demanding and emergency situations; solve problems utilizing the proper resources; interview citizens and victims and extract appropriate information for written reports; operate communications equipment; utilize a computer; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Police Services Representative IIAny combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities are as follows:
Experience: Journey level experience working with the public on an individual and/or group basis, interviewing crime victims and taking reports in law enforcement or related environment.
Knowledge of: Some police procedures and policies;
City vehicle codes and parking laws, criminal codes, collision investigation techniques, and effective interviewing and detailed report writing techniques; basic evidence collection techniques; use of computer, software, hardware; and English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability to: Effectively and simultaneously perform multiple tasks; effectively interview crime victims and obtain pertinent information from distressed individuals; remain calm in demanding and emergency situations; evaluate and prioritize situations; communicate effectively and deal firmly with diverse, demanding, and sometimes hostile people; interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies; assist in maintaining a crime scene; collect evidence at a crime scene to include basic fingerprinting and…
