Description
Systems Administrator – VMware & Storage Infrastructure
This role is primarily responsible for the administration and support of a VMware virtualization environment with Windows, Linux and Appliance VMs, with working knowledge of enterprise storage systems (NAS/SAN) to support day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is proactive and self-sufficient, taking ownership of issues end-to-end and operating with minimal oversight, while staying organized, responsive, and collaborative with the rest of the team.
Technical skill matters, but so does how you work with others: we're looking for someone curious who genuinely enjoys collaborating and learning alongside the team.
Responsibilities
Administer VMware vSphere environments: ESXi host management, vCenter, clustering, HA/DRS configuration, and VM lifecycle (provisioning through decommissioning).
Apply working knowledge of enterprise storage (NAS and SAN), including basic provisioning, permissions, and protocol-level troubleshooting (NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI), coordinating with the storage owner/team as needed.
Own backup operations using Veeam (job configuration, monitoring, retention, restore testing) and support broader disaster recovery processes.
Troubleshoot issues across the hypervisor, VM, and storage layers, performing root-cause analysis (RCA) on recurring or major incidents.
Manage patch cycles and version upgrades for VMware, backup, and OS environments, including rollback planning where needed.
Perform hardware-level tasks as needed (installation, troubleshooting, component replacement) for servers and storage arrays.
Develop and maintain VM templates of Windows and Linux in different OS versions.
Use Service Now to manage incidents, requests, and changes, ensuring tickets stay accurate and up to date throughout their lifecycle.
Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and changes.
Identify opportunities for efficiency or automation and help implement them.
Provide occasional after-hours/on-call support as needed.
Qualifications
Requirements
Bachelors and 3-5 years of systems administration experience, with meaningful time in VMware environments.
Working knowledge of storage systems (NAS/SAN); hands-on experience with enterprise storage platforms is a strong plus.
Experience with Veeam (or similar backup platforms): configuring jobs, monitoring, and performing restores.
Experience working within an ITSM platform such as Service Now (incident/change/request management).
Comfortable in Windows and/or Linux server environments.
Basic scripting ability (Power Shell, Bash, or Python) is a plus.
Practical experience with core networking fundamentals, including VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and basic routing/subnetting.
Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
