JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Director, Legal Affairs provides senior-level legal support with a primary focus on labor and employment matters. This role advises Human Resources and Security teams, manages employment litigation, and leads occupational health and safety compliance efforts. This role is responsible for leading the health and safety team and ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA. The position partners with cross-functional stakeholders to mitigate legal risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and support business operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and manage labor and employment litigation, including case strategy, oversight of outside counsel, and monitoring case progress.
- Provide legal guidance on employee and guest claims in partnership with Risk Management and Human Resources.
- Advise on employment law, regulatory compliance, liability matters, and law enforcement inquiries to minimize organizational risk.
- Partner with business leaders to identify and implement risk mitigation strategies and support executive decision-making.
- Align labor, employment, litigation, and compliance strategies with enterprise legal standards through collaboration with affiliated legal teams.
- Prepare and deliver reporting on litigation exposure, compliance efforts, and material legal developments.
- Partner with the Security team to develop and review policies and procedures related to safety, event readiness, and regulatory programs.
- Respond to employment-related inquiries, subpoenas, and regulatory requests.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Human Resources on employee relations, accommodations, performance management, compliance, and dispute resolution.
- Oversee occupational health and safety compliance efforts, including adherence to Cal/OSHA requirements.
- Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to reduce legal risk.
- Oversee internal investigations to preserve privilege and provide strategic guidance on outcomes.
- Design and deliver legal and compliance training programs.
- Facilitate internal and external discovery processes, including document review and production.
- Review and approve standard motions and other litigation-related filings.
- Mentor and support junior legal team members.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Doctoral or professional degree.
- 6+ years of legal practice experience, including a minimum of 2 years of in-house corporate legal experience.
- Extensive experience in labor and employment law.
- Experience with litigation, California wage and hour law, and traditional labor matters.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
