Incumbent is responsible for coordinating the materials management system throughout the medical center or health system, with regards to procurement, processing, and distribution of materials and services. Ensures the efficient and cost‑effective acquisition of equipment and supplies throughout the organization. Manages operations of a materials management unit, implementing systems, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance. Manages staff using materials management techniques to maintain supplies, establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy, and manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals.

Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls and protects departmental assets through systems and procedures.

• Verbal and written communication skills to communicate strategies with senior leadership; strong ability to actively listen and influence others.
• Travel between procurement office and medical center locations; additional travel up to 10%.
• Strong problem‑solving skills to address issues when no precedent exists and to develop creative alternatives.
• Ability to set goals and manage the implementation process for initiatives; highly adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Skills to forecast talent needs and encourage leadership development for succession planning.
• Position subject to the California DMV’s “Pull Notice System”; continued employment contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
• Demonstrated knowledge of procurement practices and procedures (e.g., RFP/RFI/RFQ process) and strategic vendor sourcing and negotiation techniques.
• Minimum five years of previous working experience managing organization‑wide supply chain activities—procurement, inventory control, purchasing, etc.
• Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with all levels of staff and coordinate supply chain activities across functions.
• In‑depth knowledge of current materials management best practices and systems.
• In‑depth knowledge of business subjects such as purchasing, inventory systems and controls, and/or accounting.
• Expert Excel skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant internal policy, external regulations, and best practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Advanced skills in the use of ERP/financial systems (e.g., Oracle, People Soft, SAP, etc.).
• Advanced skills in organizing, simplifying, and increasing efficiency of processes and procedures while maintaining standards and compliance.
• Ability to interpret data and make appropriate decisions for the organization using that data, including burn rate, utilization, and forecasting.
