About the Role
We are seeking a National Equipment Manager to help build and manage our equipment operations across both our Brokerage and Asset divisions.
This is a mid-level management position with an initial focus on managing trailer pools across the country, improving equipment visibility, utilization, positioning, and overall process control.
The role will work closely with both Brokerage and Asset Operations and will serve as a central point of contact for equipment-related planning and execution.
As the position develops, responsibilities are expected to expand beyond trailers to include tractors and chassis.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with transportation, fleet, dispatch, or equipment-management experience who is looking to take ownership of a growing national operation and help build the processes behind it.
Key Responsibilities Trailer & Equipment Management- Manage trailer pools across multiple locations and customer programs.
- Maintain accurate visibility of trailer location, availability, and status.
- Coordinate trailer repositioning based on customer and operational demand.
- Monitor trailer utilization and dwell.
- Identify equipment shortages and excess equipment across different markets.
- Coordinate trailer recovery from customers, carriers, terminals, and drop yards.
- Manage company-owned, rented, and leased trailer inventory.
- Track rental agreements, lease expirations, and equipment availability.
- Assist with new customer programs involving drop trailers and power-only operations.
- Work directly with Brokerage and Asset Operations to determine equipment requirements.
- Help plan trailer pools for new and existing customers.
- Ensure Asset Operations has sufficient equipment to support drivers and freight demand.
- Coordinate equipment allocation between terminals and markets.
- Help resolve equipment imbalances before they create service issues.
- Support power-only and drop-trailer opportunities.
- Develop and maintain centralized equipment tracking processes.
- Provide daily and weekly equipment reporting.
- Track trailers by status, including available, loaded, empty, at customer, in transit, under maintenance, and out of service.
- Investigate missing or unaccounted-for equipment.
- Monitor utilization and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary rental or lease costs.
- Build reporting that provides management with clear visibility into equipment performance.
- Work with maintenance teams and outside vendors regarding equipment repairs and availability.
- Track out-of-service equipment.
- Monitor expected return-to-service dates.
- Ensure maintenance status is reflected accurately in equipment reporting.
As the position develops, responsibilities may expand to include:
- Tractor assignment and utilization.
- Tractor rental and lease management.
- Tractor availability and out-of-service reporting.
- Chassis inventory and utilization.
- Chassis rental and per-diem management.
- Equipment transfers between operating locations.
- Fleet utilization reporting.
- Equipment lifecycle planning.
This position is expected to grow into a broader fleet and asset-management role over time.
Qualifications- 3+ years of experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, fleet operations, equipment management, dispatch, or a related field.
- Experience working with trailers, tractors, chassis, or transportation equipment preferred.
- Strong operational and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across different locations and departments.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Comfortable building and maintaining operational reports.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
