Job Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic is a hands-on, mechanically skilled professional responsible for ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of our production systems. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of manufacturing equipment and facility systems to minimize downtime and maintain continuous operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a steadfast commitment to safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities include performing preventive and corrective maintenance on high-speed packaging lines, blending machines, conveyors, air and vacuum systems, and other essential equipment. The role also involves supporting line changeovers, equipment setups, and general facility upkeep. Working closely with production operators, line leaders, and fellow maintenance technicians, the Maintenance Mechanic will play a critical role in diagnosing issues, implementing solutions, and ensuring all equipment runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently.
- Apply mechanical expertise to start, service, diagnose, adjust, and repair various equipment including high-speed filling and packaging machines, air compressors and vacuum pumps, central vacuum cleaning systems, blending equipment, and dust collectors, conveyors, stretch wrappers, cappers, labelers, induction sealers, compactors, and more.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, identify root causes, and take corrective actions to restore optimal functionality.
- Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) on production equipment, facility lighting, fire systems, emergency lights, HVAC units, and more.
- Set up, start up, and shut down production and packaging equipment while following all safety and operational procedures.
- Provide changeover support to production teams, ensuring correct setup of equipment such as:
- Unscramble rs, fillers, metal detectors, weight checkers, cappers, coders, labelers, and case sealers
- Use portable power tools and shop machinery for on-site equipment repair, modification, rebuild, or improvement projects.
- Collaborate positively with managers, operators, and fellow mechanics to assess mechanical issues and implement timely repairs.
- Perform inspection, cleaning, and documentation of equipment condition and maintenance performed, maintaining accurate preventative maintenance records.
- Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety policies, plant dress code, hygiene standards, and housekeeping expectations.
- Perform emergency repairs quickly and efficiently to reduce equipment downtime and maintain production schedules.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Monitor equipment performance and make recommendations for upgrades, replacements, or process improvements.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce recurring issues and improve equipment reliability.
- Assist with equipment installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery or production lines.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to workplace safety, equipment maintenance, and environmental controls.
