Highland Lumber is seeking a dependable and motivated General Laborer to join our team. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in starting a career in the lumber and building materials industry. The position provides hands‑on experience in yard and facility operations while offering a supportive environment for learning and growth.
The General Laborer will support daily yard and facility operations through hands‑on work that keeps the workplace safe, clean, and organized. Typical duties include sweeping and cleaning work areas, assisting with facility maintenance, sorting lumber and plywood by hand, helping saw operators, bundling units with banding and strapping, shrink‑wrapping finished bundles, and applying inventory tags. This is a physically active role performed both indoors and outdoors, requiring reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely as part of a team.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Sweep, clean, and maintain work areas to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Assist with facility maintenance tasks as directed.
- Manually sort and organize lumber and plywood by size and type.
- Support saw operators with moving and handling cut material.
- Bundle lumber units with banding and strapping equipment.
- Apply shrink wrap and inventory tags to finished units.
- Follow all company safety rules, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) when applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and squat for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow instructions.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Previous experience in a lumber yard, warehouse, or facility maintenance role.
- Familiarity with banding, strapping, or shrink‑wrapping equipment.
- Basic knowledge of lumber and plywood types and sizes.
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
This role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and lifting. Work will be performed in both indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to weather conditions, dust, and noise typical of a lumber yard. Employment DetailsJob Type: Full-time, non-exempt (hourly).
Compensation: $16.90-$18.00 per hour.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime or weekend work as needed.
