Materials Manager

Join NELLSON and become part of a winning team of professionals! We currently have an immediate opportunity for a Materials Manager to join the Powder Division at our Anaheim, California location. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Responsible to manage all aspects of materials flow, procurement, planning, scheduling, and cost to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time and in full at a 98.5%+ KPI level.

Essential Functions/

Job Duties:
  • Oversees procurement and scheduling/planning teams and develops, implements, and manages the overall planning process incorporating line capacity, material flow and associated cost elements to drive most efficient, productive, and cost-effective frozen schedule to the production floor
  • Ensure team distributes weekly production schedule and work orders are released in a timely manner.
  • Establishes and supervises production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, production progress and other factors that can affect the schedule
  • Review planned vs completed production, perform root cause analysis to provide insight on areas of opportunity and implement correction to reduce actual to plan variances
  • Analyzes current customer demand, future sales forecasts, capacity throughput and material flows in order to collaborate with cross functional teams and develop and execute a "build-to-order" / "build-to-forecast" 6 month rolling plan. Plan will address future labor, line, and inventory requirements to support best economic strategy for production meeting customer demand
  • Establish and implement best practices to support proper procurement, inventory, and scheduling processes
  • Collaborates with Customer Service to develop and maintain a rolling 4-week customer delivery schedule upon capacity and material constraints. Proactively communicates any potential late deliveries to CSM to share with customers
  • Develop and execute a procurement strategy that meets Nellson's growth and supply & demand requirements while maintaining a proper DOH Inventory KPI as directed by Director of Supply Chain
  • Establish, implement, and manage system to evaluate, monitor and report supplier and buyer scorecard performance
  • Coordinate and work with Quality, Engineering and Production to ensure 100% on-time delivery by establishing and monitoring schedule to proactively identify and address any issues.
  • Participates as a member of the Operations team in making cross-functional operational decisions
  • Participates in MRB and CAR meetings to resolve quality issues working with both internal and external resources
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Process Engineering and Quality to achieve cost reduction targets
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by implementing, maintaining, and aligning company policies that adhere to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Maintain and provide current understanding of industry best practices and technology trends
  • Identify tools, processes, and metrics to optimize supplier value
  • Back-Up to Master Scheduler when out of office
  • Adhere to established company policies, procedures, terms and conditions and legal matters that affect purchasing policies
Essential Requirements:

Knowledge

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in business, management, or other related discipline and/or work experience equivalent.
  • At least 7 years progressive experience in management of materials, purchasing, procurement and logistics within a design and manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, intermediate level of Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to demonstrate solid written and oral communication skills

Skills and Abilities

Required:

Demonstrated written and verbal communication, knowledge of Microsoft 365 software applications, mechanical aptitude and MRP systems required. Desired experience in total quality, six sigma, or other similar environments
