Spring Coiler Set‑Up/Operator Machinist
Position Type:
Full‑time, Temp‑to‑Hire.
We are seeking a skilled Spring Coiler Set‑Up/Operator Machinist 1 for our spring manufacturing facility in Anaheim. This role involves setting up and operating Torrington mechanical and wire forming machines to produce various spring parts as per blueprints and setup instructions. The role is essential for maintaining production efficiency and ensuring product excellence.
Job Responsibilities- Set up and operate industrial coiling machines for manufacturing wound commercial wire coils.
- Perform setup, operation, changeover, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct safety audits of equipment at the beginning of each shift.
- Review blueprints to determine setup procedures and machine attachments required.
- Select and install machine attachments according to blueprints or setup charts.
- Verify wire diameter with micrometers or calipers and thread wire through drive rollers and guides.
- Use various hand tools (ratchets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.).
- Set cams, turnbuckles, and pitch tools to control spring dimensions.
- Perform trial runs, including stress relief, and measure sample products for conformance to specifications.
- Adjust machines to attain specified tolerances.
- Understand blueprints and use precision measuring devices.
- Recommend blueprint changes to resolve production problems.
- Make tools and attachments if not in stock.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and basic math.
- Ability to read and interpret part specifications and blueprints.
- Basic understanding of quality control and SPC.
- Experience operating and maintaining various machinery.
- Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
- Good communication skills for promptly reporting issues.
- Preferred experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
- Preferred 1 year of experience as a Coiler Machine Operator.
- Preferred 1 year of experience with Torrington Mechanical and CNC Coiling Machines.
- Experience with cold winding, hot winding, lathes, mandrels, and CNC machines is a plus.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Stand for 4‑6 hours straight per day.
- Perform pushing and pulling tasks throughout the day using hand trucks and dollies.
- Ability to use hands for various tasks.
- Ability to bend and stoop as needed.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
