The Customer Quality Engineer will be in a multi-disciplinary team environment and will need to thrive on tackling challenges. The position requires problem‑solving skills in a hands‑on work environment to address problems, drive, and implement appropriate design or process changes. This is a customer‑focused role with customer interaction to meet the needs and expectations of the customer. Business travel of up to two weeks per calendar year may be required.
You’ll Do
- Accountable for management of customer score cards and related matrices. Strive to attain the most favorable quality scores by implementing solutions to nonconformities for quality issues raised by customers and proactively working with internal teams to perform a read‑across and eliminate similar concerns.
- Leads a cross‑functional team including members from product quality, supply chain quality, manufacturing engineering, operations, design, and support to provide solutions to customer reported quality concerns.
- Develops and leads implementation of solutions to nonconformities and to satisfy quality issues raised by customers.
- Directs escape management procedures, root cause analysis, and develops recommendations for corrective action for design problems for internal products & processes.
- Responsible for performing quality engineering reviews for assigned engineering change orders, drawings, CMM, TCM, first‑article inspection reports (FAIRs), and other technical publications.
- Participates in MRB activities and provides input with respect to assigned customer quality requirements. Manages such activities in a timely manner within ERP system as assigned.
- Initiates, communicates, and manages NOE, deviation requests, and variance requests with assigned customers.
- Submits quality‑related documents to customers, at times using customer portals, and follows up with disposition of such requests.
- Leads customer audits/assessments as assigned, communicating the event agenda and organizing support prior to the event and following up on all assigned actions, observations, and findings after the event. Conducts internal quality audits as well as external partner facility and process audits as assigned.
- Performs job assignments within the established Quality Management and Safety Management Systems of the organization.
- Balances the business needs of the organization while ensuring compliance with all stated internal and external quality requirements.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and non‑verbal) and ability to summarize complicated technical topics quickly and concisely.
- Ability to effectively lead a cross‑functional team to drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and interpret dimensional and other related requirements on the drawings.
- In‑depth knowledge of Quality Management System(s) and Root Cause Analysis tools.
- Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum experience or, in absence of a degree, 10 years of relevant experience.
- 5+ years in aerospace with solid knowledge of Quality Assurance in production/manufacturing. Experience managing quality plans for NPI/NPD a plus.
- Knowledge of FAA, EASA and compliance with other regulatory authorities.
- Certified in the appropriate ASQ Body of Knowledge (CQE, CQA, CRE, CPA).
