Job Overview
A Analyst I is based at Onterris' Anaheim, CA laboratory and focuses on routine to moderately complex environmental analyses, including preparing samples, operating advanced instrumentation such as GC and GC‑MS, and ensuring high‑quality, compliant results.

Your tasks revolve around the daily sample load, incoming projects, and the needs of the department. This includes inspecting, prepping, and screening client samples and ensuring that this information is well documented and communicated.
The primary technologies you’ll be working with include GC, GC‑MS, vacuum systems, flow controllers, and pressurization equipment.
Responsibilities- Prepare standards, calibrate, load and operate GC/GC‑MS under supervision.
- Monitor backlog and consumables.
- Sample screening, batch samples, load and verify sequences.
- Conduct primary data review.
- Maintain LIMS/logbooks and follow Good Lab Practices.
- Create CARs when required and support corrective actions.
- Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and confirm instrument readiness.
- Maintain small equipment.
- Perform MDLs and proficiency testing under guidance; participate in SOP reviews.
- Interface with QA, Sample Receiving, Project Managers and Service Center Managers.
- Assist with method development.
- Comply with Onterris Quality Assurance Program and other policies.
- Comply with Onterris Health and Safety Plan.
- Stay current with Workday Learning trainings.
- Change gas cylinders.
- Intermediate LIMS user.
- Housekeeping.
- Annual SOP review.
- Basic instrument knowledge – theory/principle.
- Identify process improvement opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physical Sciences, or a related technical field (preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience performing analytical testing in an environmental laboratory.
- Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant laboratory experience will be considered.
- Experience with air testing methodologies, sample preparation, instrumentation, data review, troubleshooting, and quality systems is strongly preferred.
- Candidates demonstrating advanced technical competency, independent problem‑solving abilities, and a proven record of analytical production may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Strong MS Office skills and familiarity with LIMS.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and teamwork.
- Comfort working with compressed gases and cryogenic liquids.
- Primary data review competency and routing instrument operation.
- Basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance under guidance.
- Preferred:
Previous experience with EPA, ASTM, and SCAQMD methodologies. - Preferred:
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. - Preferred:
Able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Physical Requirements
The physical and environmental requirements below reflect what’s typically needed to perform the essential functions of this role safely and effectively.
- Works in an office and/or laboratory environment.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 35 lbs routinely and lift/manipulate smaller weight items throughout the day.
- Must be able to stand and move about for approximately 80% of the shift.
- Ability to operate computers and standard lab/office equipment.
- May require weekends, holidays, and overtime.
