Job Description & How to Apply Below

Plump Engineering, Inc. (PEI) is seeking an experienced Director of Sales, Business Development & Proposals to lead the firm's business development, client relationships, and proposal-development efforts.
This is a hands-on leadership position. The successful candidate must be able to personally evaluate Requests for Proposals, develop scopes of work, establish professional fees, write complete multidisciplinary Architecture and Engineering proposals, negotiate commercial terms, and secure profitable projects.

The Director will manage opportunities from initial client contact through proposal preparation, negotiation, contract execution, and formal handoff to Operations. The role requires a balance of relationship development, technical understanding, commercial judgment, and exceptional proposal-writing ability.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Development
  • Develop new client relationships and expand existing accounts.
  • Conduct client-discovery meetings and identify upcoming project opportunities.
  • Build relationships with owners, architects, contractors, developers, industrial clients, institutions, and public agencies.
  • Expand existing clients into additional facilities, disciplines, and geographic locations.
  • Represent PEI at client meetings, interviews, presentations, conferences, and industry events.
Proposal Development
  • Personally write, edit, assemble, review, and finalize multidisciplinary A/E proposals.
  • Review RFQs, RFPs, Invitations to Bid, and negotiated client requests.
  • Develop project understanding, scope, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, schedules, and professional fees.
  • Prepare Statements of Qualifications, budget proposals, change orders, and Additional-Services proposals.
  • Manage proposal schedules, submission requirements, negotiations, and client follow-up.
Scope, Fee & Profitability
  • Develop coordinated scopes for Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil, Surveying, Fire Protection, and specialty services.
  • Prepare labor-hour estimates, professional fees, subconsultant budgets, reimbursables, contingencies, and markups.
  • Evaluate staffing capacity, schedule demands, project risk, client payment history, and projected profitability.
  • Recommend whether opportunities should be pursued, declined, repriced, limited, or restructured.
  • Ensure proposals are competitive while adequately compensating PEI for scope, risk, coordination, and schedule.
Client & Commercial Management
  • Maintain regular client contact throughout the sales and proposal process.
  • Lead proposal interviews, presentations, and commercial negotiations.
  • Review scope, fee, schedule, payment, insurance, and other significant contract terms.
  • Identify repeat-business opportunities and expand strategic accounts.
  • Coordinate clear project handoff to Operations.
