Become a Security K9 Handler at the Disneyland® Resort! In this role, you'll help provide a safe and secure environment for the Disneyland® Resort by working in tandem with a company-assigned canine partner. You'll support security screening operations across our parks, hotels, and other Resort locations, respond to incidents, document occurrences in computer-based reports, and deliver professional, Guest‑focused service in a fast‑paced and highly visible environment.
- Security Screening
- Work in tandem with their company-assigned canine partner to detect a variety of prohibited items/substances in various working environments, including indoor and outdoor venues.
- Perform Guest screening and K9 searches of vehicles, buildings, open areas, and unattended items.
- Act as a visible and engaged deterrent to undesirable behaviors and actions.
- Guest Interaction
- Provide excellent conflict resolution skills while balancing the importance of providing great Guest Service.
- Actively train and work with other team members and external partners in a rigorous physical training and technical environment.
- Emergency Response
- Respond to critical incidents including emergencies, evacuations, Company policy violations, and works with law enforcement.
- Apply critical thinking, analytical and decision‑making skills as necessary and, at times under duress, to address actual and potential security concerns or emergency situations.
- K9 Care & Training
- Maintain proficiency through weekly training and required certifications.
- Travel to offsite training for periods of time as determined.
- Provide care for your canine partner, including feeding, bathing, and kennel maintenance.
- Demonstrate keen observation and critical thinking skills, good judgment in decision making, and professionalism in assisting with medical incidents, Guest and Cast conflict situations, and other emergency response needs.
- Conduct behavioral assessments, utilizing specialized training and methodologies, to identify potential indicators of unusual and suspicious conduct.
- Maintain focus and situational awareness while working in a potentially stressful environment, which may include noise from music, large crowds, time pressure, and potentially disruptive, intoxicated and/or challenging Guests.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license with no moving violations for the past 12 months.
- Ability to obtain a BSIS license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain NAPWDA or other certifying agency certification.
- Ability to complete K9 detection training courses and maintain multiple annual certifications with the canine partner, maintaining proficiency through weekly training.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years previous dog‑handling experience with Military, Law Enforcement, or private sector company.
- Previous experience obtaining a working‑dog certification from a recognized certifying organization.
- Previous experience caring for a working dog (internal applicants may include at least 1 year in the DLR K9 Kennel).
- Ability to work with law enforcement and federal agencies.
- Full availability for any shift, seven days per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Pay rate in California: $32.00 per hour.
