The City of Anaheim Community Services Department is seeking Recreation Leader II’s. This is a part‑time position averaging 20 hours per week, however, no minimum number of hours is guaranteed. Hours may include weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to a Recreation Leader I is required. Recreation Leader I is the entry‑level class in the Recreation Leader Series. This position, Recreation Leader II, is the second level of the Recreation Leader Series.
East Anaheim Community CenterStaff provides essential support to the daily operations of the East Anaheim Community Center and serves a diverse group of facility users including programming for youth, families, senior citizens, non‑profits, community based organizations, and a variety of private rentals. Assigned staff are responsible for monitoring facility use, handling the set‑up and take‑down of tables, chairs, and other facility equipment. Facility hours will vary based on rentals, but general facility hours are Sunday – Thursday from 8am‑9pm and Friday‑Saturday from 8am‑11pm.
EastAnaheim Gym
Staff will be responsible for coaching youth basketball and/or volleyball during the various camps, clinics, and leagues offered throughout the year. Experience working with children, playing sports, positive attitudes, and great energy highly desired. In addition, various front desk shifts during operating hours are needed to be filled.
Adult Sports ScorekeepingStaff will be responsible for Adult Basketball and Flag Football League score keeping which includes running the scoreboard and keeping individual player stats. Staff duties will also include customer service, team engagement, and enforcement of league rules to ensure each player has a positive experience. Adult Basketball program takes place on Sunday afternoons and evenings and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Adult Flag Football program takes place on Tuesday evenings.
Experience and interest in these sports is highly desired.
This is the full journey‑level class in the Recreation Leader series. This position requires a specific knowledge of and interest in sports, arts and crafts, education, leisure activities for youth and/or adults, and or community center and facility maintenance and operations. This class is distinguished from the Program Specialist in that the latter is responsible for all program planning, staff supervision, and administration for a particular recreational program area.
An employee may be promoted from Recreation Leader I to Recreation Leader II without qualifying through the competitive process. Placement within the series is subject to department needs and an incumbent’s qualifications.
- Monitor league games and spectator control.
- Prepare reports and maintain records as assigned.
- Provide exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers.
- Establish working relationships with groups and provide assistance to meet their needs.
- Monitor facility use; troubleshoot participant and facility users concerns; ensure facility set‑ups are safe, properly set‑up, and meet the facility user needs.
- Maintain a safe program environment for participants, facility users, and staff; care and maintain all equipment issued; inform supervisor when there are hazards or when equipment needs replacing.
- Prepare facilities, including sports fields, youth care centers, and community centers, for programs and services; clean up facility at conclusion of event, rental, or program.
- Communicate with parents and school site staff regarding programs.
- Plan, organize, implement, lead, and assist in one or more recreation program, activities, and/or systems at one or multiple sites; plan, evaluate, and schedule programs.
- Provide direction to Recreation Leader I's and other part‑time staff and volunteers; assign tasks and duties and monitor performance.
