JOB SUMMARY:

The Sr. Staff Accountant performs daily functions in all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting required to support operations of the Company and its subsidiaries. This position is responsible for performing complex accounting needs including maintaining project records and monitoring cost, funding, and revenue recognition. This position also ensures that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner and addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Accounting:
  • Provides professional level financial, accounting and reporting duties for moderate to complex functional areas.
  • Performs month-end, quarterly, and annual closing activities and financial reporting duties, including accruals, adjustments, reconciliations, and documentation for the parent company and subsidiaries.
  • Monitors accuracy and timeliness of accounting processes for assigned areas.
  • Prepares timely and accurate monthly financial statements for assigned subsidiaries.
  • Perform financial analysis and prepare financial reports.
  • Assists with fixed assets and depreciation reporting.
  • Reconciles corporate bank accounts.
  • Reconciles various GL accounts.
  • Prepares and posts monthly journal entries.
  • Prepares and posts monthly revenue entries by project using cost to complete and percentage of completion.
  • Assists with annual audit preparation and year-end closing of books.
  • Works with various business managers to record monthly activity to the general ledger.
  • Assists with the preparation and completion of various requests from US Census, State of Alaska, and City and Municipalities.
  • Prepare, perform, and maintain all finance records for projects including Government contracts.
  • Ability to establish, prepare and maintain written process workflows for Project Accounting tasks.
  • Assists with monitoring WF Pcard / WEX card and any other corporate card programs.
Other Duties:
  • Work as a “team-player” with employees and co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules and instructions.
  • Stay up to date on current events and laws.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Assist with unforeseen projects, reporting, and complex requests as they arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Project Accounting.
  • Effective account reconciliation abilities.
  • Firm understanding of the Company’s culture, finance, and outlook.
  • Ability to process a high volume of data with accuracy and meet various deadlines.
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records.
  • Knowledge and skills in computerized accounting systems and knowledge of various accounting software.
  • Ability to identify variances in financials and perform root cause analysis.
  • Effective professional verbal, written, and graphical skills; and the ability to present numerical data effectively.
  • Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work without direct supervision and ethically with co-workers.
  • Excellent analytical and forecasting skills; ability to identify and resolve problems timely, skillfully gather and analyze, information, and develop alternative solutions as needed.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external customers; exceptional follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Ability to collaborate, partner, and exercise change management skills.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work in an Alaska Native Corporation multi-company environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, or year for year experience at staff accountant level.
  • Previous experience with accounting systems. Sage Intacct accounting software desired.
  • Bilingual
    - Spanish is desired.
  • Ability to pass a background and credit check.
