Assurance Associate - Winter ; Anchorage

Job Description

The Assurance Associate will be responsible for preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying basic areas of GAAP, and documenting, validating, testing, and assessing various control systems. The role may also involve reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements. The position requires travel as needed to meet firm and client needs.

• Control Environment
  :
  Apply knowledge to assess effectiveness and mitigate risks of client policies and procedures by:
  • Identifying applicable policies, laws, regulations, and authority bodies as part of the engagement team.
  • Making constructive suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Documenting and validating the operating effectiveness of the clients’ internal control system.
• GAAP
  :
  Apply governing principles to client transactions and document application by:
  • Supporting conclusions with authoritative literature.
  • Drafting basic sets of financial statements with disclosures.
  • Researching intermediate accounting areas and forming an initial opinion independently.
• GAAS
  :
  Apply professional standards and document application on engagements by:
  • Developing intermediate knowledge of auditing theory and audit skepticism.
  • Applying auditing theory to diverse client situations.
  • Documenting in line with BDO policy, identifying deviations, and notifying senior team members for approval.
  • Identifying instances where testing may be reduced or expanded and notifying senior team members.
  • Contributing ideas and opinions to engagement teams.
• Methodology
  :
  Apply BDO standards to guide delivery of quality services by:
  • Completing all necessary documentation of BDO work papers.
  • Ensuring assigned work follows BDO methodology and requirements.
• Research
  :
  Seek authoritative sources and draw conclusions by:
  • Researching basic and intermediate accounting topics and forming an independent opinion.
• Other Duties
  :
  Perform additional duties as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or Bachelor’s degree in another field and CPA certification.
• Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).
• Leadership experience (preferred).
• Accounting‑based internship experience (preferred).
• Eligible to sit for the CPA exams upon starting employment.
• Actively pursuing completion of CPA exams (preferred).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
• Self‑motivated and takes initiative.
• Basic understanding and experience planning and coordinating an audit of a basic public or private company.

Salary ranges by location:

• California: $85,000 - $90,000
• Colorado: $73,000 - $77,000
• Illinois: $78,000 - $82,000
• Maryland: $83,000 - $87,000
• Massachusetts: $83,000 - $87,000
• Minnesota: $70,000 - $74,000
• New Jersey: $78,000 - $82,000
• NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $83,000 - $87,000
• Ohio: $71,000 - $75,000
• Washington: $78,000 - $80,000
• Washington DC: $83,000 - $87,000
