Position: Law Office Assistant 1

About the Role

The Law Office Assistant 1 position is responsible for providing administrative support to prosecutors within the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office. You will be performing a wide variety of tasks to include but not limited to typing and formatting legal documents, performing data entry, organizing documents in electronic files, and communicating with outside agencies and individuals verbally and in writing to accomplish tasks.

  • Typing and formatting legal documents.
  • Performing data entry and maintaining electronic files.
  • Communicating with outside agencies and individuals to coordinate case work.
  • Assisting attorneys with case preparation and other administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications
  • Oral and written communication skills: ability to express information clearly and convincingly to individuals or groups, listen to others, and respond appropriately.
  • Computer skills: proficiency using computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems.
  • Interpersonal skills: courtesy, empathy, tact, and the ability to work with people from varied backgrounds.
  • Information management: ability to gather, organize, and maintain information, determine its importance and accuracy, and communicate it effectively.
  • Problem‑solving: ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations using sound judgment.
Requirements
  • Must be able to obtain Notary Public upon hire.
  • Must pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for use of criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS.
  • Some positions require regular overtime during the standard work week, on weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Applicants must be able to tolerate exposure to graphic pictures, coarse language, and detailed descriptions of criminal acts.
