The Communications and Community Engagement Associate supports the organization’s efforts to enhance public visibility, build community relationships, and promote North Slope Iñupiat cultural and economic self-determination. Under the supervision of the President, this entry-level role assists with content creation, digital media management, community outreach, and membership engagement initiatives. The Associate collaborates with the External Affairs Director and Program and Executive Operations Manager to align activities with the organization’s mission, Board policies, and advocacy goals, serving as a foundational contributor to the organization’s growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Communications Support
- Help draft routine communications, such as email updates or member announcements, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging.

- Content Development
- Assist in creating and scheduling social media posts, newsletters, and basic promotional materials under the guidance of the Manager.
- Support the development of educational content on Iñupiat culture, Arctic policy, and subsistence issues for various audiences.
- Monitor social media engagement and provide basic analytics to the Team.
- Social Media Support
- Work with the social media content creator to:
- Support media outreach by compiling press kits, tracking coverage, and coordinating logistics for interviews when directed.
- Assist in maintaining relationships with community media.
- Help develop simple public relations materials, such as event flyers, under supervision.
- Community & Membership Engagement
- Support community outreach by assisting with event logistics, such as workshops or town halls, under the President’s direction.
- Help distribute surveys or collect feedback from North Slope organizations to strengthen membership ties.
- Assist in coordinating basic communication support for members, such as formatting letters or resolutions.
- Website & Digital Support
- Manage basic updates to the organization’s website or digital platforms, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Assist in tracking engagement metrics and preparing reports for the President.
- Support the creation and distribution of promotional materials using digital tools.
- General Support
- Work with the President, External Affairs Director, and Program and Executive Operations Manager to support communications and outreach goals.
- Ensure all tasks comply with Board policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements.
- Participate in team meetings and provide input on community engagement ideas.
- Travel to meetings and job locations.

- Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or another related field.
