The Department of Revenue, Tax Division is looking to fill a Commercial Analyst exempt position in either Juneau or Anchorage.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Natural Gas Commercialization Analysis: Develop, maintain, and run advanced models to evaluate natural gas commercialization projects; prepare decision-support materials for the Commissioner’s Office.
  • Analyze Oil & Gas Fiscal Systems: Conduct and oversee modeling of Alaska’s oil and gas tax and royalty structures, legislative proposals, commercial terms, and project economics to inform policy decisions.
  • Support High-Level Negotiations & Decision Makers: Provide quantitative analysis, scenario evaluation, and expert guidance during negotiations with project sponsors, agencies, and stakeholders; brief executives and legislators on fiscal and commercial impacts.
  • Forecast Production, Price, and Revenue: Contribute to the Department’s official forecasts by modeling company investment behavior, production outlooks, prices, and resulting revenues.
  • Provide Expert Insight & Mentorship: Serve as a technical resource on oil and gas economics, deliver training and modeling support to staff, and testify as an expert witness in legislative, administrative, or judicial settings.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is located in the Atwood Building in Anchorage, or the State Office Building in Juneau.

In person work is completed in a professional office environment, and while fully remote work is not an option, a hybrid telework schedule may be an option once initial training is complete.

Minimum Qualifications

The position in this job class is in the Exempt service in accordance with AS . Employees appointed to exempt positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority.
