KRUA 88.1 FM Station Manager

KRUA is recruiting for a Station Manager position at KRUA 88.1FM, the student radio station at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

This is an exceptional student position with approval to work 30 hours per week and an hourly rate of $17.19.

• Serve as designated Chief Operator, managing and overseeing the student media organization.
• Act as station spokesperson and primary contact for all public relations requests.
• Maintain the organization’s presence on campus by participating in boards and committees to facilitate opportunities for special broadcasts and collaborations.
• Ensure the station is FCC compliant and meets all Federal Communications Commission regulations.
• Provide campus event coverage, music, news, sports, public affairs, and broadcast experience.
• Collaborate closely with student‑run media (e.g., The Northern Light) to support a cohesive student media experience.
• Supervise and train volunteers, manage budgets, and monitor fiscal records.

• Enrollment in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment, or enrollment in the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester.
• At least a 3.0 cumulative GPA or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or designee.
• Basic understanding and willingness to learn FCC regulations and media law.
• Experience with station equipment operation, on‑air broadcast and audio production.
• Leadership and team‑building experience.
• Working knowledge of professional journalism ethics, First Amendment rights, and legal issues in broadcast and digital media.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with minimal supervision, and prior experience in a public‑contact environment.
