Overview

UIC Commercial Services is seeking a Health, Safety, Environmental, and Training (HSET) Manager to support and strengthen corporate and subsidiary HSET programs. Based in Anchorage, this role is a key member of the Corporate HSET team, responsible for conducting safety and environmental inspections, supporting compliance efforts, managing training systems, and coordinating incident claims and insurance processes. The HSET Manager helps minimize organizational risk through proactive program support, regulatory adherence, and internal collaboration.

This position reports to the Corporate HSET Program Manager and works closely with stakeholders across the UIC family of companies.

The HSET manager functions as the safety and environmental program administrator for the Commercial Services offices located in Anchorage, as well as UICCS subsidiary operations throughout Alaska as required. Incumbents perform safety inspections, investigate incidents, monitor and process worker's compensation claims, conduct safety training, maintain various environmental programs with additional emphasis on Hazmat characterization, coordinate loss prevention efforts, and perform other safety functions to minimize risk to the Corporation.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Corporate HSER Sr Director.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

Safety Program Management

  • Support corporate HSET program management, including collaboration with Holding Company HSET stakeholders.

  • Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.

  • Support the development and maintenance of training matrices, training content, and implementation of safety training programs.

  • Serve as the system administrator for HSET database systems, including data entry, validation, and routine reporting.

  • Conduct safety and environmental inspections at corporate and headquarters locations, as directed.

  • Monitor workplace safety practices and conditions and communicate findings to the HSET Program Manager and supervisors.

  • Assist in incident investigations to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.

Environmental Program Management

  • Draft documents and procedures to support environmental program requirements.

  • Support the implementation of UIC’s Lands Environmental Protection Program and related policies and procedures.

  • Conduct facility inspections, risk assessments, and hazard abatement for corporate and headquarters properties.

  • Contribute to the development of state and federal spill response plans.

  • Support inspections of third-party operations on UIC lands to ensure compliance with environmental policies, including reviews of Spill Response Plans, SWPPPs, and potential contamination or hazardous activities.

  • Assist the Lands Department in monitoring and addressing trespass concerns on UIC property.

Claims and Insurance Program Management

  • Oversee claims management for incidents at corporate and headquarters locations, coordinating with adjusters, insurance staff, and supervisors.

  • Act as the primary contact for Holding Company HSET-related claims to ensure smooth coordination with insurance stakeholders.

  • Track claims progress and escalates issues to the HSET Program Manager as needed.

  • Assist with preparing regular reports to Risk Management on accident frequency, severity, and trends.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accident prevention principles, loss control, OSHA and EPA standards, and workers’ compensation laws.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in group settings.

  • Skilled in monitoring behavior, conditions, and data to assess compliance and identify safety risks.
