The Construction Estimator position requires robust analytical and budgeting skills and is responsible for preparing accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. The estimator should assess the best prices for a project given the relevant variables and collect and evaluate construction costs with the final goal of producing a budget or a contract bid. They will provide knowledge of costs and benefits that support profitable business decisions.

The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in the construction and environmental remediation industry, strong relationship-building skills, excellent planning and management abilities, and the capability to prioritize and lead others. They will partner with the Project Manager to ensure the project is a success from the proposal stage to completion.

Salary Range

Level I: $86,189-$106,012 per year

Level Senior: $99,720-$123,652 per year

Level Chief: $124,117-$155,766 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – All Levels
  • Be familiar with all project plans, specifications, addenda, bulletins, etc., that constitute the proposal or costing documents to prepare estimates.
  • Perform estimates at conceptual/schematic design to bid documents; research subcontractors, suppliers, and new or improved construction materials to ensure estimates are prepared with the most competitive products and pricing available.
  • Travel to job sites to gather information on materials, labor, and other factors to prepare estimates.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades. Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labor expenses.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Interact with clients, architects, engineers, and local jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc.
  • Analyze worker means and methods to recommend cost-saving and productive improvements.
  • Itemize scopes of work and definable features per trade to prepare bid packages; develop subcontract interest per trade and assist in the RFP process.
  • Proficiency with online plan rooms such as iSqFt or similar online subcontract solicitation tools is required.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to ensure the project is properly manned to meet costs, schedules, and budgets; turnover bid documents and sub-buyout information to Project Management.
  • Communicate estimate bid information to field operations at pre-construction meetings to ensure understanding of the scope of the job.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including training, safety, security, quality control, environmental compliance, and industrial relations.
  • Additional duties may include assisting in project management, review of subcontractor and material submittals, review of shop drawings for key materials, finalization of as-builts, turnover, and walk-throughs for equipment and materials.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering. Experience may be substituted for education on a 1:1 basis.
  • Prior experience estimating construction projects in the federal market for a General Contractor (GC) or large federal contract Prime Contractor.
