Position: METEOROLOGIST (EVENING) - KTUU

Job Summary/Description

Alaska's News Source is on the hunt for an experienced, dynamic meteorologist to lead our evening weather coverage Mon-Fri. If you're fascinated by the sheer power and unpredictable beauty of Alaska and able to decipher complex atmospheric data to deliver crystal-clear, compelling forecasts on broadcast and streaming platforms, this is the perfect job for you! We don't just report the weather, but truly own the story—from "First Alerting" changing conditions, to breaking down snowstorms, avalanche and volcano warnings, and even earthquakes, to crafting engaging digital content for our online audience.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts
  • Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software
  • Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting, both in the studio and in the field
  • Ability to multitask, handle breaking weather/events, and adapt to rapidly changing developments
  • Cover other meteorologists' shifts, as assigned, as well as the flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather/events
  • Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
  • Be actively involved on the station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
  • Represent Alaska's News Source at community and station-sponsored events, including school presentations and station tours
  • Record shortened daily weather casts for radio partners
  • Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management, photographers, and newscast producers to deliver exceptional weather coverage and regular climate-related reporting
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in broadcast and multimedia news content generation
  • Ability to write for broadcast news and digital platforms
  • Ability to visualize and create weather graphics
  • Understanding of principal journalistic ethics
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Willingness and ability to work in extreme weather conditions while reporting on breaking weather events
