Position Overview
This position is responsible for teaching courses in the Welding Program. The Instructor is responsible for identifying and meeting the needs of the students, contributing to the curriculum development, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of subject areas. The ability to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is a must. Excellent written communication skills and computer literacy are required.
This position requires knowledge and application of industry-accepted safety standards. The ability to demonstrate and instruct students in applicable theory and application of Welding outcomes is required.
Teaching assignments are determined by college needs and the individual’s background and experience. A combination of academic and industry background equal to at least 2 years of experience is required. Previous experience teaching at the secondary or post‑secondary level in a Welding or NDT related program is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications- Appropriate AWS certifications and industry qualifications are required for courses taught.
- An unrestricted Alaska driver’s license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.
- AWS Certified Welding Instructor certification is preferred.
- An Associate of Applied Science degree in a field related to Welding & Nondestructive Testing Technology is strongly preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
- A combination of academic and recent work experience including relevant industry certification indicative of the ability to be successful in a faculty role may be considered.
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus. It is a full‑time, 9‑month, term‑funded, non‑tenure track faculty position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
