Overview

The Department of Art at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is accepting applications for three tenure-track faculty positions in Art at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026. We especially welcome candidates with expertise in Art History, Ceramics, or Drawing, and also encourage applications from those working in closely related areas of the visual arts. Situated in a vibrant and welcoming community, our open‑access university is committed to creativity, scholarship, and community engagement.

One selected candidate will also be named the Talbot‑Sage Professor of Art, a three‑year appointment that includes dedicated funding for creative activity and professional development.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a relevant field by the time of appointment:
    Ph.D. in Art History or related field for Art History applicants; MFA in the appropriate field for studio applicants.
  • Demonstrated potential for ongoing scholarly or creative achievement and evidence of teaching effectiveness as appropriate to appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialization in Art History, Ceramics, or Drawing.
  • Ability to teach courses in Alaska Native Art, graphic design, and/or digital media.
  • Experience teaching at introductory and advanced undergraduate levels as well as both face‑to‑face and online.
  • Experience with program coordination, studio management, or exhibition curation relevant to the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Active in community engagement and outreach related to their area of specialty.
Position Details

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. It is a full‑time, 9‑month base, tenure‑track faculty position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
