Position Overview
The Department of Writing at the University of Alaska, Anchorage offers courses leading to and including Tier 1 Writing Literacy General Education Requirements. This includes all 0-, 100- and 200-level Writing courses. Adjunct positions are on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Successful acceptance into the adjunct pool does not guarantee an offer of an appointment. This is an adjunct labor pool and applicants are hired based on departmental need.
Key Responsibilities- Knowledge of accepted instruction methods.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Public speaking skills.
- Student support skills.
- Master’s degree in English, Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or TESOL.
- Two years relevant experience, preferably in adult education settings, with graduate level coursework in the teaching of writing.
- Part‑time, adjunct instructor position on a semester‑by‑semester basis.
- Minimum salaries set by United Academic – Adjunct, AAUP‑AT/AFL‑CIO collective bargaining agreement. Salaries may vary based on education and experience.
- Works within the adjunct labor pool; appointments are made based on departmental need.

- At‑will, union‑represented position; may be canceled based on university needs.
