Job Summary
The Teacher Expert Instructional Support for Frontier Charter School assists in providing an educational program that is responsive to student needs while addressing the goals and objectives of both the Anchorage School District and the school. The teacher expert remains abreast of best practices and shares with instructional staff. The position encourages teachers to apply principles of learning and effective teaching methods that enable students to be actively engaged in the learning process.

The teacher expert provides instructional classroom support through recommending, demonstrating, or modeling appropriate materials, technology, and resources to help meet learning needs of all students. The teacher expert reports to and is evaluated by the site principal. Frontier Charter School operates on a district-approved year-round calendar. Teachers are expected to work their contracted days throughout the calendar year rather than following a traditional August-to-May school schedule.

This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of workdays is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our Labor Relations Department website . Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.

Job Requirements
The following are required:
  • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate.
  • Alaska Reads Act K-3 endorsement.
  • Evidence of content knowledge shown by:
    • a posted degree in the content area of this position; or
    • a posted minor in the content area of this position; or
    • passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; or
    • an endorsement in the content area of this position
  • The following are preferred:
  • A master's degree.

    • Ability to provide professional development opportunities to colleagues in a variety of formats
    • Interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills

  • Meets with building principals regularly to identify professional development needs of teaching staff based on teacher needs and student data and to assess progress monitoring and benchmark results.
  • Applies deep content knowledge and relevant expertise to school projects and general operations; collaborates with principals in specific areas of focus and helps build instructional competency among staff.
  • Has deep and clear understanding of multiple performance measures to facilitate data driven discussions and decision making at the school and student levels.
  • Fosters and builds relationships with all stakeholders (at school and district levels) to drive collaboration and student support.
  • Responds and interacts effectively to requests from classroom teachers and support staff in modeling lessons and advising on the use of data.
  • Provides training in and modeling of research based instructional practices.
  • Develops staff proficiency in culturally responsive practices and differentiated instruction to meet the learning needs of all of our diverse populations.
