Job Summary
The Teacher Expert Family Engagement Coach provides assistance to ASD schools, families, and other community organizations in support of student achievement, with an emphasis on Title I schools. This position consults with and provides professional development to school staff, facilitates schools and families with transitioning children into elementary, middle or high schools, offers parenting classes when requested, supports communication and two-way engagement between the district and families when appropriate, and works with community organizations to strengthen family engagement.
The teacher expert reports to and is evaluated by the director of Federal Programs. This position may have a flexible work calendar which may include duty days during summer, winter or spring breaks, with equivalent time off during the regular school year as mutually agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.
This position requires a valid Alaska educator certificate. The number of work days is based upon the AEA negotiated pay scale. Information on the pay scale can be found online on our Labor Relations Department website. Positions that are 0.50 FTE to 1.0 FTE are associated with the Alaska Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), positions that are 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
Positions that are 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.
Job Requirements
The following are required:
- a posted degree in the content area of this position; or
- a posted minor in the content area of this position; or
- passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores (formerly Praxis II) in the content area of this position; or
- an endorsement in the content area of this position
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the essential functions of this position. The successful candidate:
- Displays extensive knowledge of appropriate developmental characteristics of age groups and can easily adjust instruction to accommodate the range of development needs.
- Has the ability to use current technology to enhance instruction.
- Applies knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
