The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking adjunct instructors to prepare students for fulfilling careers in performance theatre. This position requires community and educational outreach; the ideal candidate should possess a vision of forward‑thinking and collaborative storytelling. Successful candidates will possess strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, as well as a commitment to an undergraduate liberal arts education where an equally strong dedication to discovery is essential.
Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester‑by‑semester appointment. Qualified applicants will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors are hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester‑by‑semester basis according to the needs of that semester’s schedule.
Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high‑quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness.
Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment.
QualificationsApplicants should possess a theatre/performance background that includes acting techniques, voice training, classical acting, movement training, and/or theatre history relevant to the assigned course(s). Knowledge of classical, avant‑garde, contemporary, youth theatre, and/or musical theatre is desired. Additional areas such as directing theory, play writing, script analysis, theatrical design, and theatre technologies are encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications- A master’s degree (MA/MEd/MFA) is required unless an exception has been approved by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Exceptions may be made when prospective instructors have special professional credentials and experience.
Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
Position DetailsThis position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a part‑time, adjunct‑rendered temporary position. New hires will be placed on the adjunct salary schedule as outlined in the UNAD CBA, based on education and experience.
