Overview

The UAA Department of Music in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is seeking applicants for its adjunct instructor pool to further its goal of fostering excellence in the preparation of music students for graduate school, teacher training or other careers in music. The department anticipates the need for private music lesson instructors in piano, organ, strings, voice, and woodwinds.

Instructors of other instruments are welcome to apply and will be reviewed should a need arise in their specialty.

Position Details

Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants are placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester’s schedule.

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a part-time, adjunct represented temporary position. New hires will be placed on the adjunct salary schedule as outlined in the UNAD CBA, based on education and experience.

This is a pooled position; applications are reviewed as needed. Submission of an application does not guarantee review or a job offer.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A faculty member who is the instructor of record in a credit‑bearing course at the 100‑course level should hold a terminal master’s degree (MFA), unless an exception has been approved by the Dean of CAS. Exceptions may be made in other circumstances when prospective faculty have special professional credentials and experience, such as an accomplished musician.
  • In CAS, faculty teaching upper‑division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline.
  • Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
Employment Requirements

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction and must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment.

All applicants must complete a background check; any offer of employment is contingent on the background check.

If you need assistance in completing this application or during any phase of the interview process, please contact UA Human Resources by phone at 907‑450‑8200.
