School of Social Work Adjunct Faculty

Overview

The UAA School of Social Work seeks adjunct instructors to teach part-time in undergraduate and graduate social work programs. Candidates will receive training and mentoring, and will contribute to the diversity and practical experience of the faculty.

• Develop and deliver instructional materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with program curriculum and learning objectives.
• Provide guidance and support to students, including mentoring, advising, and academic assistance.
• Work effectively with colleagues and students of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, promoting the school’s mission of decolonizing and anti‑oppressive teaching and community engagement.
• Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
• Commit to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.

• MSW or a master’s degree in a closely related discipline (required).
• Doctorate degree in Social Work or a closely related field (preferred).
• Experience teaching BSW and MSW curricular areas such as human diversity, human behavior, social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, case management, research, program evaluation, and social welfare policy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate students from diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to an inclusive learning environment and social justice.

  University of Alaska Anchorage campus, Anchorage, Alaska.
• Part‑time, for credit adjunct faculty position.
• Salary based on experience and number of previous semesters taught within the University of Alaska.
• Semester‑by‑semester appointment; hiring decisions made each semester.
• Union represented adjunct position; at‑will employment.
