General FunctionsMust be the parent of an Alaska Native/American Indian K-3 child attending one of the following ASD schools:
Alaska Native Cultural Charter School or Susitna Elementary School. The Educational Assistant collaborates with classroom teachers and families to strengthen the home-school connection and increase parent engagement in students' academic success. This position provides culturally responsive support to Alaska Native and American Indian students through in-class instruction, small-group learning, project-based activities, and family engagement events that promote academic excellence and cultural connection.
Working in partnership with our people, the Educational Assistant helps develop opportunities that fulfill our endless potential by fostering resiliency, effort, and effective learning strategies while building meaningful partnerships between families, schools, and community.
- Connect with Alaska Native and American Indian students through shared culture and cultural identity to support their academic learning and social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to supplement in-class instruction by leading project-based learning opportunities that promote a well-rounded education.
- Provide small-group instruction focused on building resiliency with challenging academic work and increasing student effort related to classwork.
- Assist with student remedial work, tutor students individually and in small groups, and monitor student progress to identify learning needs.
- Support classroom management and assist with preparation of culturally based activities that celebrate Alaska Native and American Indian heritage.
- Provide in-school and after-school learning activities that promote academic excellence and cultural enrichment for students and families.
- Facilitate and participate in events to encourage home-school connection among parents of Alaska Native and American Indian students, including community nights, spelling bees, book fairs, community clean-up, and parent-teacher club activities.
- Increase parent engagement with at-home learning by providing resources, strategies, and communication that support family involvement in education.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, staff, and community members to build trust and maintain partnerships.
- Assists with supervising students in lunchrooms, libraries, gym, and other school settings to ensure safety and positive behavior.

- Participate in relevant professional development and training to increase teaching strategies and cultural competency.
- Assist with data collection related to student participation, progress, and family engagement activities.
- Adhere to all CITC and Anchorage School District policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality according to FERPA and all program requirements.
- Perform all related duties as needed and assigned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interact effectively with youth, families, and educators.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize a variety of communication styles to maintain effective contact with families, students, and school staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.
