The UAA Department of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications to its adjunct labor pool. The department offers courses in comparative politics, international relations, political philosophy, and American politics. Specific areas of need vary by semester based on the schedule. Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.
About the RoleAdjunct instructors are hired on a semester‑by‑semester basis. Qualified applicants are placed into a hiring pool from which instructors are hired as needed. Acceptance into the pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, and having worked one semester does not guarantee a position the following semester. Hiring decisions are made on a semester‑by‑semester basis according to the needs of the schedule.
ResponsibilitiesTeach undergraduate courses in the political science discipline. Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their field, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness.
Qualifications- Relevant Master’s degree (exceptions may be made for equivalent traditional knowledge and experience of Alaska Native issues and cultures subject to Dean approval).
- Doctorate or terminal degree in a related field for upper‑division (300 and 400) courses (exceptions must be approved by the Dean).
- Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.
- Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
- Location:
University of Alaska Anchorage campus, Anchorage. - This is a part‑time, adjunct, temporary position.
- New hires will be placed on the adjunct salary schedule outlined in the UNAD CBA, based on education and experience.
- This is a pooled position; applications are reviewed as needed. Submission does not guarantee review or a job offer.
- Employees are required to work on‑site based on operational and business needs. Hybrid or remote arrangements may be considered only for positions specifically designated as eligible.
- This is an at‑will, union‑represented adjunct position, and may be canceled based on university needs.
