Position Overview

The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking adjunct instructors to prepare students for fulfilling careers in performance theatre. This position requires community and educational outreach; the ideal candidate should possess a vision of forward‑thinking and collaborative storytelling and a commitment to an undergraduate liberal arts education. Successful candidates will have strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and a dedication to discovery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare students for careers in performance theatre and deliver high‑quality instruction.
  • Implement community and educational outreach activities.
  • Maintain teaching effectiveness through semester‑by‑semester evaluations.
  • Teach courses that may include acting techniques, voice training, classical acting, movement training, theatre history, and may involve directing theory, play writing, script analysis, theatrical design, or theatre technologies.
  • Participate in a semester‑by‑semester appointment process and join a hiring pool for selection as needed.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree (MA/MEd/MFA) required unless an exception is approved by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Professional experience or credentials in theatre/performance, including acting, voice, movement, or theatre history.
  • Commitment to an undergraduate liberal arts education and strong interpersonal collaborative skills.
  • Availability to work within Alaska for the length of any assignment.
  • Official transcripts documenting academic credentials.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
