Term Assistant Professor of Languages

Join the Department of Languages as a full-time, one-year, Term Assistant Professor, specializing in French and a second language from either German, Japanese, or Spanish. Teach engaging courses, including French courses at all levels, elementary, intermediate, and advanced courses in either German, Japanese, or Spanish, and culture/topic courses in English.

The Department of Languages at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a Term Assistant Professor of Languages with a specialty in French.

The Department of Languages offers a baccalaureate degree with a primary emphasis in German, Japanese, and Spanish and minor degrees in French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Cultural Perspectives. Additionally, the department offers ASL and Russian language courses.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to teach core and specialized courses in the department’s curriculum.
  • Demonstrated potential to support and mentor students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching practice.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French, English and a second language (German, Japanese, or Spanish), and native or near-native proficiency in English.
  • Readiness to participate in outreach and recruitment efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in language, literature, culture studies or closely related field by the time of appointment.
  • Disciplinary expertise in language, culture, and literature studies or related discipline.
  • Evidence of college/university level teaching experience.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in French, English and a second language (German, Japanese, or Spanish).
Position Details

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, 9 month base, term faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Faculty salaries are based on a variety of factors, including education and experience.
