An Elementary Chinese Language Immersion Teacher teaches elementary school subjects in Chinese and Chinese language to elementary students. Subjects taught include 2nd and 3rd grade Science, Social Studies, and Chinese Literary, which is Chinese Language instruction including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and handwriting. Specific grade assignments may change based on the needs of the school district. Teachers create a flexible elementary grade program and a learning environment favorable to growth, establish rapport with students, motivate them to develop essential skills, and maintain relationships with parents and staff.
They apply a philosophy of education relevant to practice. A valid Alaska educator certificate is required. Workdays are based on the AEA negotiated pay scale. Positions may change in grade level, content area, and work site depending on enrollment and staffing needs. Fully FTE positions are associated with the Alaska Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS); positions from 0.40 to 0.49 FTE are associated with the Alaska Employees' Retirement System (PERS);
positions 0.39 FTE or less are not eligible for state retirement benefits.
