Middle College Academic Advisor – University of Alaska Anchorage

Join the University of Alaska Anchorage Office of Academic Affairs as a middle college academic advisor. This position is part of the team working with Anchorage School District students taking UAA courses through the Alaska Middle College School. The position helps students enroll in university courses, connects them with university services, and monitors and supports their overall progress and success at the university.

This position is a key member of the UAA middle college staff, working collaboratively across the university and with the Alaska Middle College School staff in the Anchorage School District. Reporting to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and institutional Effectiveness, the Middle College Academic Advisor helps students enroll in appropriate courses, monitors their progress, and promotes their success. The position also supports the middle college textbook process, and participates in and supports events such as middle college new student orientation.

To thrive in this role, the successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for higher education and student success, have a strong knowledge of University programs, policies, procedures, and campus support services, and experience in working with individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. They will have exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, advanced computer skills with the ability to learn new programs, and be able to work independent and as a member of a larger, collaborative team.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience is preferred.

Position Details

This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage, and flexible on‑site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full‑time, term‑funded, non‑exempt staff position complete with a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
