The Union of Students, University of Alaska Anchorage (USUAA):
Broadens the educational perspective of students through a structure of self-governance. Promotes the educational needs, welfare, and rights of students and aids in the formulation of policy and procedures concerning student life. Serves as a forum for the expression of ideas for enhancing the quality of students' educational experience through expanded and improved communications among students, faculty, administration, and beyond.
The Assembly Business Manager (ABM) is a paid student position providing administrative and marketing support to USUAA and working under the general direction of the USUAA Advisor, the USUAA President, and the USUAA Vice President. Despite employment status, the ABM will be held, at minimum, to the ethical standards set forth in the USUAA Constitution and Bylaws. The ABM will not be a voting member of the Assembly and will have no authority on any USUAA committees, guidelines, policies, or decision-making bodies.
The primary duties of the ABM are to provide administrative and marketing/advertising support to USUAA.
To thrive in this role the USUAA ABM should have strong written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of general office procedures and etiquette, prior customer service experience, prior advertising experience, and a willingness to learn and be receptive to constructive feedback. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or similar graphic design programs are preferred. Applicant must be able to maintain regular business hours, meet deadlines, and work both independently and cooperatively with USUAA and other staff members.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
1. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment or
a. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters;
2. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
3. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
4. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
Position Details:
This position is a Student Assistant 2 position working about 10-15 hours biweekly during the academic year. The pay is $14.10/hr.
This position is open to undergraduate students only.
