The Department of Anthropology & Geography at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a Non-Tenure-Track Term Assistant Professor of Sociology or Anthropology with the ability to teach in both fields. This position offers the opportunity to teach engaging introductory and upper-division courses, contribute to interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs, and support applied curricula that connect classroom learning to real-world social issues.

The faculty member hired for this position will teach a range of introductory courses in anthropology and sociology courses, as well as upper-division courses aligned with their research interests and training. We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in cultural anthropology and training and expertise in sociology, including a demonstrated record of teaching sociology courses. The successful candidate in this position will teach courses that serve the general education program, the Anthropology BA and BS, and the Sociology Minor.

Courses may include, but are not limited to Cultural Anthropology, Alaska Native Cultures, Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems and Solutions, Sociology of Gender, Sociology of Globalization, Social Science Research Methods, Comparative Culture Studies. The candidate hired to fill this position will teach in an interdisciplinary setting and contribute creatively to the department's bachelor's and master's programs in anthropology, as well as its minor in sociology.

With a strong emphasis on applied curricula, the department seeks a candidate who will advance its instructional goals and support student learning across programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Sociology, Anthropology, or closely related field by the time of appointment. Disciplinary expertise in sociology, cultural anthropology, or a closely related applied social science field. Demonstrated capacity for scholarly or creative activity, including publications, presentations, or a defined research agenda. Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level.
