Duties Help
* Serves as Installation Cartographer, or Geographer, with responsibility for the overall coordination and program development of high-quality, cost-effective Computer Aided Drafting and Design/Geographic Information Systems (CADD/GIS) tools, systems applications and programs.
* Initiates, conducts, coordinates, monitors, and participates in technical studies to determine the feasibility and the capability of the GIS technology to support current/new missions or long-range programs.
* Develops CADD/GIS related management and design programs, applications software guidance, standards and instructions.
* Maintains effective working relationships with scientists, engineers, designers, and planners from other agencies and customers, to include contractors, to facilitate the exchange of information and resolve problems.
* Prepares correspondence including talking papers, briefings, etc., about projects, programs, and planning issues. Exercises lead personnel management responsibilities:

Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Cartography Series 1370;
Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).
OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Experience:
Applicants whose experience in cartography was in the Federal service may have gained this experience by working in an occupational series other than GS-1370. Occupations in which experience may have been gained include Geography, GS-150;
Civil Engineering, GS-810;
General Physical Science, GS-1301;
Geodesy, GS-1372; and Land Surveying, GS-1373. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED
EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes professional knowledge of cartographic theories, concepts, principles, practices and equipment, including those used in photogrammetry, remote sensing, photointerpretation, digital analysis or other techniques, sufficient to evaluate source material; research, analyze, select, and prepare cartographic materials.
Mastery of geospatial science concepts, principles and practices including cartography, geographic information systems, remote sensing, scientific data visualization, and their applications to geospatial operations and analysis as they would relate to management applications on military installations.
